How to Download a Single Photo or Tagged Photo from Facebook

First, let’s look at how to download a single photo. You can download your photos individually and save them in a file on your desktop. If your photos aren’t in albums, this can be a great way to organize them on your phone or desktop.

Besides organizing, you can make a thoughtful gift for a wake with individual photos or use them to decorate your walls.A memory board is another way to make a forever souvenir. Below are steps to get you started:

Step 1: Access your account

You’ll need to log into your Facebook profile before downloading photos. If you try to download a friend’s pictures or your own before logging in, they may not be available to view.

Facebook offers a variety of privacy options to keep your photos safe. If your profile is set to private or friends only, then non-friends won't be able to download your pictures.

Step 2: Find your photos

Now that you’ve entered your account, navigate to your profile. It’s the bubble icon with your picture on the right-hand side of the front page.

Next, click the photos tab below your cover photo. You’ll be able to download pictures from your album, profile pictures, and tagged photos of yourself here.

Step 3: Download and organize

Finally, you can choose which photos to download.

To download a photo on your desktop:

  • Click on the photo and wait for it to pop up.
  • Hover over the photo and left-click on the ‘options’ tab.
  • Left-click the ‘download’ button. Your photo will download as a JPG file that you can use to print at any photo service or yourself at home.

If you’re using a phone to download photos:

  • Open your Facebook Android or Apple app. Navigate to your profile by clicking the three dashes on the lower right-hand side. Click the bubble icon with your picture.
  • Then scroll down to your timeline and click photos—your profile pictures and albums will be here.
  • Choose any photo you’d like and click on the three dots in the right-hand corner. Then you can save your photo to use as a decoration or keepsake.

Just like organizing your home, organizing your photos can be a daunting task. Thankfully, Facebook makes it simple. After you download your chosen photos, you can add it to any folder on your desktop and organize it by month, date, year, or occasion. To make printing more manageable, you can print photos directly from your phone after downloading them.

How to Download an Entire Facebook Photo Album

If you want to create a memorial collage or safely store your pictures in your photo library, then downloading one image isn’t enough. Unfortunately, Facebook has made the feature to download individual albums unavailable. Instead, you can use a third-party service to download albums or download your entire Facebook library instead.

Keep in mind that a third-party service can hijack your computer or leave your personal information vulnerable to theft. Services can also sell your personal information or photos. It’s always best to read any disclaimers or agreements before you download these apps.

Yet, using a third-party service can be convenient. An application like DownAlbum is downloadable on Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browsers and easy to use. If you’d prefer to DIY instead, then take a look at our guide to downloading all of your photos next.

How to Download All of Your Photos From Your Facebook Page at Once

Like the other tips mentioned above, Facebook has another less known option not only to download all your photos but your comments, likes, messages, and everything in the Facebook sphere, too. If you feel like you need a social media detox or you don’t use your account, make sure to do this before deleting your Facebook.

Even if you’re not ready to leave your Facebook friends behind, downloading your entire library is a great way to plan. If you can’t access your account or it’s compromised, make sure to back up your photos (just in case). Facebook doesn’t make downloading your library easy to find, so we’ve done the legwork for you. Here’s how:

Step 1: Choose your device

It’s easiest to download photos on your browser, but you can also request access on your phone. If you use a computer, a ‘zip' file will download automatically.

But, if you choose to use your phone, you’ll have to save the data to the Apple iCloud or Android Google Cloud.

Step 2: Find your Facebook information

You’ll have to navigate to download your photos. If using your desktop:

  • Find the upside-down triangle button (next to the question mark) in the upper right-hand corner of any page and click down to settings.
  • On the left-hand side, you will see an option to click on ‘Your Facebook Information.’
  • Next, click ‘View’ to ‘Download Your Information.’ Now you’re ready to download your photos.

It’s trickier to find the download option on your mobile device. To find it:

  • Open the Facebook app and navigate to the three dashes on the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
  • Choose ‘Settings and Privacy’ and ‘Settings.’
  • Scroll down to ‘Your Facebook Information’ and choose ‘Download Your Information.’

Step 3: Choose and request your photos

Now that you’re ready to download your information, you’ll have to choose what you want to store. Besides photos, you can download comments you’ve posted and even groups you belong to. Facebook doesn’t give you an option to select photos or videos only. Once you download your photos, your videos will be attached to the downloadable file too.

After selecting to download your photos, you’re ready to create a file to download. You can select the type of file and image quality. JPEG files in high quality are best for printing your photos at home or using a service.

Step 5: Download your photos

Finally, your favorite dinner or that high school picture you forgot about is ready to downloadalthough you’ll have to wait for your request to process before taking a look. Your photos will take longer depending on how large your library is (from a few minutes to hours) Facebook will notify you once they’re ready to download.

After you open the ZIP folder from Facebook, you’ll notice smaller folders labeled ‘mobile, profile, cover.’ Luckily for you, Facebook organized them based on location. Now you’re ready to tackle your next photo project!

Additionally, you won’t be able to download tagged photos using this option. You’ll have to use our guide on downloading a single photo above.

Downloading someone else’s Facebook photos

Not only does Facebook allow you to download your own and friends’ photos, but strangers' photos as well. As long as the post is public, you can download shared posts from your favorite Facebook pages, too.

It’s possible some pages have their posts set to ‘friends only.’ In that case, you won’t be able to download photos, and you can’t download cover photos either.

Keeping Your Photos Private

So, you're ready to delete or memorialize your account, or just print or store your photos for future use. You’ve downloaded your photos, but do you want others downloading them as well? Unless your privacy settings are locked down, anyone can use pictures of yourself or your friends and family. To check if your settings are private double-check the symbol next to each photo is set to 'friends only.'

Finally, you’ve stored your photos, but have you thought about how to store your end-of-life wishes? Just like sharing photos with your Facebook friends is important, end-of-life planning is too.
